COLES CREEK CLOUD BURST
The 2010 season of QVMX began at Coles Creek with a sign on / practice weekend on February 27/28 with approx 60 riders fronting up for Saturday. The track layout was another Rusty special and the king of the off camber delivered with a twisty, corner filled circuit. Word in the paddock was positive but a lot of people missed the big straights Colesy has had in the past. Come on Russell, top gear rocks and you know it.
As soon as the slashed grass was churned out of the way, juicy traction was there for the taking. Later in the day the odd shower had turned it in to a slippery track where anything above 2 PSI had your back wheel spinning crazily and made you wish you put that paddle tyre on. All but the bravest headed for the esky early. Simon Broad refused to come in enjoying the horrible conditions, showing everyone how it’s done. Living just 20 minutes away I decided to head home for some more comfortable sleeping arrangements but not without nearly getting bogged in for the night.
I returned Sunday morning to find everybody getting out any way they could. The area had 160mm of wet overnight and Sunday had to be cancelled. I’m OK with that because I hate that much mud. Mud sucks. Mud sucks harder than a zombie on a brains flavoured milkshake.
3 O’Clock that Sunday I loaded up my lowrider and took off for Tasmania. It rained all the way down. It rained in Tassie. It rained all the way back. Two and a half weeks later it’s still bloody wet and they say cyclones are coming this weekend. Hells bells and buggy wheels!! Let’s hope Biddadabba (how ever you spell it) is dry next weekend. They tell me the meaning of Biddadabba is “You won’t need tearoffs here mate”. Let’s freaking hope so. See you there.

Jet: Lots of enduro, I did the Australian 4 day in 07. I went ok at the VMX Nationals last year
Ronnie: Sure did mate, you took the championship on that ultrasweet CR125. Must have had a good team behind you. Have you got much in your trophy cabinet?
Jet: Lot’s of enduro medals, the VMX national title medal of course and a few old rum cans.

Jet: Easy mate, 2 stroke all the way.
Ronnie: What’s in your shed mate?
Jet: 2007 CR250, 1979 CR250, 2x 1987 CR125, CRF450 half a dozen little bikes and a KX125 frame!!

Jet: Anthony Gunter, Carl Fogarty and of course Max Power
Ronnie: Me too. Any gnarly injuries?
Jet: About 24 breaks all up which include 4 skull fractures and 3 broken legs.
Ronnie: 3 broken legs??? That’s unreal, most of us only have two!!!!
Jet: No mate, I broke one leg twice in the same place.
Ronnie: Hell, I wouldn’t go back to that place mate. You can have a brand spanking vintage bike? What do you want?
